The Story Behind Baskin-Robbins’ Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Flavor

The Story Behind Baskin-Robbins’ Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Flavor

It’s National Chocolate Mint Day and here at Baskin-Robbins, we’re chilling out with a sweet scoop of our beloved Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. Keep reading for the inside scoop on this classic flavor!

Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream was one of the original 31 flavors that made up our menu when Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins first opened their doors in 1945. Now, 75 years later, it is still one of our most popular flavors. Our classic, minty flavor is still the same great ice cream that guests know and love, without artificial dyes. This creamy, mint flavored ice cream made with rich semi-sweet chocolate is sure to leave your taste buds refreshed and wanting more. But, do you ever wonder how we ensure there is chocolate in every bite?

Unlike other Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream flavors, our Mint Chocolate Chip uses a liquid chip instead of typical chocolate chips or flakes. Liquid chip is chocolate added in a melted state, which hardens as it is mixed into the ice cream. This process results in better dispersion of chocolate and ensures our guests are left with a lasting chocolatey taste.

Perfect in a freshly baked, chocolate-dipped waffle cone, a Mint Chocolate Chip Milkshake, Mint Chocolate Chip Polar Pizza, or as a layer in one of our signature Ice Cream Cakes, Mint Chocolate Chip is the perfect cool treat. You can enjoy our Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream right at home with “no contact” delivery via DoorDash or Uber Eats, or you can place an order at

order.baskinrobbins.com or through the Baskin-Robbins mobile app for pickup via drive-thru, carry-out, or curbside where available.
